Race Details 2010
July 9, 2010
As mentioned in my blog, we’re starting at the main parking lot across from the Mormon Church. After a one-year experiment assembling over at Canyon Vistas, we’re returning to our traditional starting location, but with a newer, later, starting time: 8am, not 7am.
The Race: It’s all about fun and earning the coveted TinCup. The race starts at 8am so you should get to the parking lot no later than 7:30am. From the parking lot we will ride down the road and enter onto the main trail. Up Dripping Cave, up Mathis, down Rock-It, left on Coyote, up Cholla, down Lynx, out the main trail back to the parking lot. Drop your bike, put on your running shoes. Down the road, right onto the main trail, up Dripping Cave, right at the bottom of Mathis, over the creek, right on the main trail, and take it home.
The Rewards: Winner takes the TinCup, 2nd place Gets the TinHead, Spirit Award gets the V-Cup. We can change this if we decide to for any reason. If someone wants to make a Tissue Boy Trophy, we can award this as well. Some may elect to do the entire race. Some may do it with a teammate, some may ride only. Some may just want to come out and do a long walk. Whatever makes you happy! Come prepared with everything you need; water is the most important. We provide nothing but fun on the course…the rest is on you.
Party Notes 2010
July 9, 2010
TinMan16 will enjoy an Octoberfest theme…yes, that includes beer! By all means, enjoy the TinMan Race, but our TinMan parties afterward are legendary. Come and join the fun, even if you haven’t participated in the race and run and morning fun. (Of course, if you are total stranger, and you’re just surfing the web, and don’t know Roy and Holly, then you probably should ignore this entire website and have a party of your own!)
The Party: Roy and Holly Heine’s residence, 26011 Via Arboleda, San Juan Capistrano 92675
Time: Dinner is served from 5pm–6pm, and the party will end at 10:30pm. Adults only, please. An Octoberfest theme with beers from Germany will replace our usual tequilla theme.
Parking: If you are parking in front of the Heine residence, please park perpendicular to the street to maximize space. It is a wide cul-de-sac. Do not park where the street is narrow; if the cul-de-sac is full, please park instead on Via Estellita.
Fun: Swim, play ping pong, feed and enjoy the horses, find a restful place in one of the gardens, dance, sing, eat, and drink. We have good music, food, and good times.
We welcome you to bring a German beer, a bottle of wine, snacks, or a fine bottle of tequila. Our tradition is to drink only fine tequila from the TinMan Cup. Bring a friend and lets have some fun!
Missiles of October is an OC premier rock band that has been around for decades. We’ll be treated to some great music!
No drinking and driving please! We will arrange transportation for you to get home, so you do NOT drink and drive! Or have a designated driver…let’s have fun and be safe. Taxi service is only a phone call away. Let’s keep all crashes limited to the TinMan Race on the trail, please!
We hope to have either hats or t-shirts again this year. Please vote for your choice in the poll on the TinMan home page. Work in progress, so check back here on the TinMan website to order yours in advance.

The 16th Annual Tinman
October 9, 2010
When: Race starts at 8am…be there by 7:30am to warm-up and get ready. Party starts at 5:00 pm.
Where: The race is at Aliso & Woods Canyons, followed later by the party at Roy and Holly Heine’s home.
NOTE…the race starts at the main parking lot, as was the case in most previous years except 2009.
What to bring: Once again this year we are asking everyone who can, and who chooses, to donate money to Susan G. Komen For the Cure. Donations can be made via this link to a special TinManRace Fund on the Susan G. Komen website. If you can’t figure out how to do that online, just bring a donation to the race or party.
We’re also soliciting sponsorships related to our new Octoberfest 2010 TinMan theme.

2010 TinMan Race is On!
July 9, 2010
Calling all TinMen, TinChicks, and TinWannabe’s!
I think this is the 16th Annual Tinman race (confirmed by MR). I am turning 55 so I have a lot of excuses for not remembering exactly how many years we have been doing Tin. I was even told by a neurologist that I have a empty space about the size of a peanut in my brain so I have every reason why not to remember a lot of things. What I do know… is TinMan is happening October 9th, and it is going to be the best TinMan ever!
There are a number of changes this year:
- We’re starting at the main parking lot across from the Mormon Church
- Starting time will be 8am, not 7am
- The party will start at 5pm, not 1pm
- An Octoberfest theme with Beers from Germany will replace a tequilla theme
- A great band: Missiles of October

The Fine Print
The Beer: We are looking for sponsors for fine beer from Germany. Your $100 donation is all it takes to get your logo published and recognition for contributing to the event and sponsoring a great beer.
Down the road, right onto the main trail, up The Rock, up Dripping Cave, right at the bottom of Mathis, over the creek, right on the main trail, and take it home. And last year’s phenom, Ricky Barnes, will be required to carry 20 pounds of rocks during the race.
We will arrange transportation for you to get home, so you do NOT drink and drive! Or have a designated driver…let’s have fun and be safe.
